January 28th—Schools in the Developing World

Our first meeting of the year will feature a video about the Druk White Lotus School in Ladakh, a mountainous region of Northern India. The firm that designed the school considered solar orientation, local building materials and techniques, the extreme climate, and Tibetan Buddhist beliefs. After the screening, AWB volunteers will discuss similarities and differences between the Druk White Lotus School and schools AWB has been working on in Nepal, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Join us at the AIA Center for Architecture, 403 NW 11th Ave (enter on NW Flanders St) at 6 PM.  Refreshments will be served.
