John Blumthal

John, a founding member of AWB-Oregon, is Secretary/Treasurer and a member of the Steering Committee. He has led or been a member of AWB-Oregon volunteer teams serving communities in Oregon, Washington, Haiti, Ethiopia, and Somalia. John retired in 2012 from his position as a principal at Yost Grube Hall Architecture where he led teams serving college and university clients.

Rod Merrick

Rod is a founding member of AWB-Oregon and president of the Oregon corporation. On the Steering Committee he oversees the Projects Group with John Blumthal. He has led AWB volunteer teams on several education-related projects in Africa. Rod is principal of Merrick Architecture Planning and his family now includes three generations living in southeast Portland.

Maab Mohammed

Maab is passionate about equity and sustainability in design. She has a BS in Architecture from Portland State University and volunteered with multiple design projects before joining AWB-Oregon. She is a Designer at Carleton Hart Architects and a committee member of Diversity in Design group. Always open to learning, she enjoys working on projects of various types and scales.

Ryan M. Odom

Ryan’s mission is to blur the line between art and architecture. He earned a Master of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture [SCI-Arc] in 2016 and a B.S. Arch. from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in 2014. He is working to become a licensed architect and enjoys working on projects across a multitude of scales.

Catherine Paglin

Catherine has served on the Steering Committee since 2012. She is AWB-Oregon's Communications Coordinator, responsible for AWB’s newsletter, website, and social media presence. She also fields inquiries from prospective volunteers.

Chandra Robinson

Board member Chandra Robinson serves on the Portland Design Commission and is a project director at Lever Architecture. She has been involved in AWB projects in Tanzania, Haiti, and Nepal.


Kent Wu

Kent, a member of the Steering Committee, is an architect at Holst Architecture and has been volunteering with AWB-Oregon since 2011.

 Mat Stockstill

Mat moved to Portland in 2016 from Springfield, Missouri where he obtained a Master of Architecture from Drury University. He received his graduate degree from Portland State University in Spring 2018 and obtained his Architect license in Missouri. He has collaborated with and been a member of many non-profit organizations working in architecture and related fields.
